Natural Cures for Anxiety

It has been said that this imagine helps to calm anxiety.

Anxiety

Anxiety has many faces.  It’s not always the same, especially with the different situations.  I have learned over the years that anxiety likes to creep, throughout the day, even during your fun times.  You know the feeling all too well.  Outside talking to friends, working out at the gym, watching a movie on Hulu, and bam, that feeling comes.  The felling that scares you because you know exactly what it is.

No other feeling is quite like it.

Your brain identifies it immediately & your body reacts just as quick.  Everyone is different, but I bet that we all recognize that feeling just as soon as it starts.  Everyone has felt nervous at times, maybe over a few bills that need to be paid, a break-up, or an interview for a job.  This is known as everyday anxiety.  Anxiety Disorder is so much different.  It’s constant.  It makes you avoid social situations because you don’t want to feel judged or embarrassed.  You have panic attacks out of the blue and you are so scared of having another one.  The fear is so great because with panic attacks, you feel as if it’s the end and there is nothing you can do.  The fear engulfs you so bad and you aren’t sure of how to break free.  Many of us deal with irrational fear, emotional numbing, and ever recurring nightmares.  All of these negatives are part of the anxiety disorder.

So, how do you get rid of it, or at least calm it down?  That really depends on you.  It depends on what your triggers are.  Again, every has different anxieties.  Being able to figure it out can be a challenge, Especially if you have no idea where to start & if you are unaware of what your trigger points are.

Tea for Anxiety

  • Peppermint
  • Chamomile
  • Lavender
  • Kava
  • Valerian
  • Lemon Balm
  • Passionflower
  • Green Tea
  • Turmeric
  • Fennel
  • Rose
  • Ginseng

  • Catnip

Out of these Tea choices, what works for me personally is Kava.  It calms me down instantly.  The flavor is quite amazing as well.  It is a Pacific Island ritual tea that is used for Anxiety.  It targets the brain receptors that are responsible for feelings of anxiety.

That being said, it does not mean that this tea will work for you the way that it does for me.  It is possible that peppermint will help you, or even lavender.

Aromatherapy

  • Lavender
  • Chamomile
  • Clary Sage
  • Ylang Ylang
  • Rose
  • Wild Orange
  • Bergmot
  • Frankincense
  • Peppermint

Lavender is very calming. It will help to soothe and relax. It will also help with sleep, tension, irritability, and restlessness. Studies have been shown that Lavender can help in reducing stress and tension. I deal with tension migraines a few times per month. Instead of taking medication for it, I use Lavender oil.

Chamomile is known to soothe & calm. It helps the mind and the body to harmonize, reducing worry and over-thinking. Over-thinking is something I do at a constant rate. I like to use lavender & chamomile together. They are very powerful when mixed & help in keeping me calm.

Clary Sage is great for the menstrual cycle and can greatly help with PMS and stress. It helps to relax and soothe when in stressful situations. I have personally never had the chance to use this oil, but plan to very soon.

Ylang Ylang is great for anxiety and depression. If you have ever had palpitations, this oil helps in calming them down. It also aids in irritability and insomnia. I have palpitations daily and keep a Ylang Ylang oil roller next to me at all times. It’s so powerful that all I have to do is smell it & it takes the palpitations away.

Rose oil is great for panic attacks, especially during one. It will also help with shock. It uplifts and helps with relaxation. It also helps in balancing hormone levels which can greatly reduce anxiety. This is another one that I have yet to try. I seem to always forget about it until I feel a panic attack coming on. Figures right. Wrong place, wrong time experience.

Wild Orange is an energy booster. Another plus is that it aids in anxiety and hypertension. If you are feeling tired, a little bit of this oil will wake you right up. I can’t use this oil. I am already a bit hyper, and this oil over-does it for me, making me feel like I have anxiety because I am moving too fast

Bergamot provides energy as well and does an amazing job with depression. It helps to relax you and will also help with insomnia and agitations. A few extras: It can help bring back your appetite, and can help in uplifting you.

Frankincense is a natural anti-depressant and has sedative properties. It will help you to focus and get rid of any distractions. It helps in easing irritabilities, restlessness, and even impatience, which I have a problem with and need to learn to just wait. I use this oil in my bathwater and it helps in relaxing me so that I can get a good night’s sleep.

Peppermint calms nerves and eases tension. It also helps with mental clarity as well. It energizes and uplifts. Also, and this is a huge plus if you suffer from allergies, it will help in clearing your sinuses.
